- A large share of Vancouver homes are strata condos and townhouses. Most strata bylaws require approval and an acoustic underlay with a minimum sound rating before new floors go in — engineered hardwood, vinyl plank and laminate all have products that qualify.
- Character houses built before the Second World War often have original fir or oak floors under carpet or linoleum. Many can be sanded and refinished instead of replaced.
- Concrete slabs in towers call for engineered hardwood, laminate or vinyl plank — not solid hardwood.
